![]() ![]() New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Monday congratulated A R Rehman and Resul Pookutty on winning the Oscars for music and sound editing, even as the ruling party at the Centre sought to encash the public euphoria over their feat by claiming credit for creating a "conducive environment" that has led to the emergence of "Achieving India", as against "Shining India" of the previous NDA regime. Bracketing this achievement with some others during the UPA regime like winning the first Olympic gold medal, hoisting the Tricolour on the moon, signing the 123 Agreement, and about 9 per cent economic growth for four years, AICC spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Monday took a dig at opposition parties accusing them of trying to take India to "Middle Ages, away from Achieving India". "This is Achieving India at its best. We are proud that in the conducive environment provided by the good governance of the UPA with special emphasis on inclusive democracy, India has become Achieving India in diverse fields. We don't believe in the chimera of Shining India but we are proud that we have the solid bedrock of achievers in India, whether it is the first individual Olympic gold medal or the first spaceship hoisting the Tricolour on the moon or 8 Oscars for India-focused film," said Singhvi at a press briefing here. Asked whether the continuing poverty as highlighted by the film reflected on the Congress' performance as the ruling party for about five decades, the AICC spokesperson said, "Poverty is a reality in India. We cannot deny it. The thing to look at is how we have improved the situation in an inclusive manner. We never claimed credit for the Oscars to Slumdog Millionaire. We are celebrating India. There are large parts of the world, which has great islands of poverty. But Oscar is not granted to everyone." Earlier, Sonia expressed delight at Rehman's and Pookutty's achievements. "They have done India proud, as have all the Indian actors, technicians, and support staff who participated in the making of Slumdog Millionaire. They represent the finest traditions of our film industry and are an inspiration to all of us. I congratulate them all, as well as the producer and director of the film, for their well-deserved success at the Oscars and other international award events," she said in a statement. In a separate development, Abhishek Manu Singhvi was on Monday nominated by the Congress president as chairman of the Legal & Human Rights Department of the AICC. Source: Indian Express |

I think the two kids Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail and Ayush Mahesh Khedekar who played the roles of Youngest Salim and Youngest Jamal respectively have done an amazing and great job, I think if there is something in the film its only becoz of them. And i don't know why other actors who don't even have a role of 15 or 20 min are in limelight. I don't think so Freida Pinto's role is even for 15 min but she is seen everywhere as tough its becoz of her the film is a super hit.....!!!!
And now even these politicians are taking credit for this...!! ![]() WHAT DOES THIS BELOW STATEMENT MEAN ?????? """ The AICC spokesperson said, "Poverty is a reality in India. We cannot deny it. The thing to look at is how we have improved the situation in an inclusive manner. We never claimed credit for the Oscars to Slumdog Millionaire. We are celebrating India. There are large parts of the world, which has great islands of poverty. But Oscar is not granted to everyone.""" Is this AICC spokesperson guy celebrating poverty in INDIA ???? Shame on this uneducated people...!!!!!! |
