Govt operator bsnl/mtnl will not be ready for mnp till march 2010 however most private operators are ready. Still DOT may postpone the MNP further till march or april 2010. Thats govt psu for you. |

But if they start early before BSNL it will be very useful for themselves right? They can take advantage of starting early and get more subscribers before BSNL gets its n/w MNP ready.

MTNL & BSNL should be kept aside & MNP should be launched. If we depend on these govt. companies then even 2010 will not see MNP.

it is very stupid on govt that they force the pvt operators to meet the deadlines & when it comes on them then timeliness are not important.

The wait just got longer for all those who were eagerly holding out to change their mobile phone service operator without changing the number. Mobile number portability could get delayed by 3 months, thanks to unprepared operators. This has forced the government to call an emergency meeting on the issue.
Number portability was supposed to put an end to many a trouble faced by phone users. One could have dumped the existing phone operator due to its poor service without worrying about changing ones mobile number. But it seems that unpreparedness of telcos, especially government owned BSNL and MTNL, may force the government to postpone its decision to April 1. A worried telecom department has summoned all operators for an urgent meeting on Thursday, after which the government will decide the final date of implementation. Industry players argue that telecom regulator TRAI's decision to fix a Rs 19 charge for porting to another operator was not a right one, as it does not compensate the companies who will spend on the back-end. But experts say the price is just right. On December 17, a new date for implementing Mobile Number Portability will be decided. While the government may insist on telcos adhering to the January 1 deadline, the inability of government telcos to meet this deadline may leave the government with little option but to push back the implementation date. |
