what is the best free computer antivirus?also provide name of some very good functioning antiviruses.

kaspersky is best no doubt, keep its keys updated regularly !!

oterwise avast ...recently i find avira is also wrking fine !!

Avg worked best for me.
Using it happily from last 4+ years.
For some ppl it is not effective YMMV. So try all till you find the one.

i would suggest not to install any antivirus...
no antivirus no virus detection and nothing to worry about

hey... I think your system was not connected with any internet. Or you dont use any external storage media such as pendrive or dvd. Thats why you dont realise the need of anti-virus or firewall in your system.

I think There is no antivirus which is 100% best and effective. What avast says as a virus kaspersky says it isn't. Avast was better but an year ago it allowed a hit in my computer and I had to format the computer to clear the problem. After that for a short while I used avira, even that was good but not satisfatory enough. Now I am using original kaspersky 2009. That's gud enough but since I use a lot of internet and pen drives now it's difficult to contain the virus problems
