Searching in the market to buy 1.5 ton window Ac I found ac nowadays are star rated by BEE.
1. star consumes a lot of power
2. star saves a little
3. is most efficient

Surprisingly there aren't any 4 or 5 star ac in windows ac segment atleast i didn't found one. While split ac are more efficient with most of them 3 star or above.

Also more star AC has more costly it becomes.
Diff between 2star and 3star window ac comes to around 100-130watts.

That is if my ac works 8hours per day with digitally controlled temperature compressor works around 6 hours per day. Using it for 5 months of summers gives saving at

115*6*30*5= 103.5 units of power in year

At Rs.5 per unit I save around Rs.517 at current market price.
Considering AC life at 8years I'll save hardly above Rs.4000
which might increase when power price increase in future.

While the cost of 3star AC is around Rs.3000-4000 more than 2star Ac I wonder is it worth paying more for extra star.

So more star are good only if price is same.

The rate difference between 3 star and 5 star for split AC is around Rs.5000! i was also wondering why there much of difference...

I don't know myself.
Ogeneral and Hitachi have premium price for all products.
While most of the brand charge premium to power saving product .... may be some technology involved.
Still you can calculate if it is worth to spending more by following the above formula.

General, Hitachi, Voltas, blue star & daikin all these are costlier coz of brand value. Generally all these brands are excellent when compared to LG and Samsung. Shopkeepers dont empasize more on star ratings though. They say on the long run it does not give mcuh savings(like gabu's calculation) much due to the inconsistent voltage.

Hey i am planning to buy Samsung AC 1 Ton, there are two models avaible and the only difference is BEE Star Rating one model is 1 star andother is 2 star with only 500rs difference between them can any tell me the exact caluclation between them and which ACshould be buyed?
